BSA Whitewater Merit Badge Instruction

Boy Scouts of America Whitewater (Rafting) Merit Badge - This class includes both a classroom and on-water component designed to aid the scout in completing the Whitewater Merit Badge. The classroom work (approx 2 hours) must be completed prior to the on-water instruction.
Note: This class covers Whitewater Merit Badge Requirements 4-13. Scouts should complete Requirements 1-3 prior to attending this class. All scounts should be able to swim and feel comfortable in moving water.

Cost: $10/scout; minimum of 10 scouts.

Scoutmaster please note: When setting up this class, please have your local Council contact information available, as we will register our instructors with your local council. This helps prevent problems with certifying the badgework.

Cost includes.....

• Instructors registered as youth instructors with BSA.
• Classroom instruction the day/evening before.
• On-water instruction during rafting trip. (Raft trip must be scheduled separately.)
• Scouts must fully participate in the on-water activities and pass a written test to earn the Certification of Completion.

Raft Guide School

Raft Guide School - This school is designed to teach you the basics of raft guiding. The first half of the class consists of 3 full days of on-water and classroom work, designed to get you in the back of a boat as quickly as possible. The remaining 3 days are spent 'on the stick', that is, in the back of a boat, with customers. Topics covered include boat control, river reading skills, customer service/handling, basic river rescue techniques.

Cost: $250/person.

Note: Candidates for employment at Sheltowee Trace Outfitters may take the guide training class at a reduced rate of $75/person. However, employment is not guaranteed and is dependant on your attitude and progress during the class.

Cost includes.....

• Lunch provided all 6 days
• 3 days instruction by a senior trip leader
• Custom matching with a Training Assistant based on strengths/weaknesses for the remaining 3 days
• All equipment rentals provided during class
• On-site camping during class.

More advanced courses, as well as private classes for your group, can be scheduled in the Spring and Fall. Just ask!
